Texas lawmaker proposes handgun safety courses in schools
By ROBERT LAURIE - Brace yourself for a left-wing freakout
Not so long ago, schools all over the country had gun clubs and marksman courses. Kids brought their rifles with them on the bus, locked them up when they weren't in use, and learned to operate them with the appropriate respect. There are still some school districts with rifle teams, which are generally limited to .22 caliber target rifles, but the vast majority of school systems have abandoned the concept. Gun control advocates would like to keep it that way.
Widespread firearm education and possession, at a time when the term "mass shooting" was unknown, doesn't jibe with their message that gun ownership causes violence. In particular, the idea that kids as young as 13 could be taught to fire a handgun sends them into the kind of apoplexy they normally reserve for the goons who club baby seals.
That these classes existed without incident, for a century, is irrelevant. "Guns are bad. Their only purpose is killing. Young people should not be taught how to use them. Stop asking questions." Never mind that it's completely laughable; it's the central theme of the left's anti-gun crusade.
So, they're probably going to have a meltdown over a new proposal in Texas.
Republican State Representative James White has introduced a bill that would allow Texas high schools to offer gun safety courses if they choose to do so. The courses would be taught by either a police officer or a certified concealed handgun instructor, and they would instruct kids in the proper use of handguns and shotguns.
The video below is from KENS5 out of San Antonio. Thank god they made sure we're aware that, once this education is complete, there's no way to be 100% sure that people will use guns responsibly.
Expect the manufactured liberal outrage to commence in 3....2....1....
