Roger Clinton - pardoned brother of Bill - arrested. Charged with DUI
The more things change...
With only two days to go before the hotly contested (possibly make-or-break) California Democratic Primary, the last thing Hillary needed was to remind voters what an absolute train wreck her family is. ...Enter Roger Clinton. You'll remember Roger as Bill's hard-partying brother who received an infamous presidential pardon that removed a 1985 cocaine possession rap from his record.
He's also currently sitting in a Redondo Beach jail cell, thanks to a drunken ride down the Pacific Coast Highway.
True to the reality-TV nature of this election, TMZ broke the news early this morning:
Hillary Clinton's brother-in-law is sitting in a jail cell after getting busted for DUI in Southern California ... just 2 days before the crucial CA primary vote.
Law enforcement sources tell TMZ ... Roger Clinton was arrested Sunday just after 8 PM in Redondo Beach. He was booked for driving under the influence, and we're told he refused blood alcohol testing.
Roger remains in police custody. His bail is set at $15,000.
Clinton was also arrested for DUI in 2001. That same year, President Clinton infamously pardoned his half-brother for a drug charge.
If you're a high-falutin' fancy pants who thinks he's too good for the tabloid journalists at TMZ, here's a more detailed rundown from the folks at KABC.
A concerned citizen called police to report a possible drunk driver traveling southbound on Pacific Coast Highway in an erratic manner.
Officials said the citizen followed the car and provided police with updates. Officers caught up to the car and pulled it over near the intersection of Torrance Boulevard and S. Prospect Avenue.
Police said Roger Clinton was arrested after officers conducted field sobriety tests. The 59-year-old was transported to the Redondo Beach Jail, where he refused all chemical testing, authorities said.
Bail was set at $15,000. He was set to appear in a Torrance courtroom sometime Monday.
Refusing chemical testing is smart, since it should make it a little easier for Bill & Hillary to "make a few calls" and see to it that this goes away. Obviously, L.A. is primo Clinton-Hollywood-Pal territory, so they must have someone in the rolodex that can pull a few strings.
Oh sure, if the Clintons were Republicans, this would be a major story. Every talking head in the mainstream media would be yakking about it for the next 24 hours. Representatives from AA and MADD would be wondering if these were the kind of people we want in the White House - again - and we'd all be enduring a "national conversation" about sobriety. "Can," the press would wonder, "such an irresponsible family be trusted with the nuclear launch codes?"
Fortunately these are Democrats, so this won't be a big deal. The press will mention it briefly, favors will be granted, and it will go away.
As for Tuesday's primary, this won't have any impact. By now, everyone knows who and what the Clinton family is. Their shenanigans are as "baked in" as Hillary's untrustworthy numbers. Frankly, if you look through the last few years, this is probably the least awful crime perpetrated by someone in their inner circle.
So, bad news for anyone hoping Roger Clinton's wild night will aid in a possible Bernie Sanders upset. You're going to need something much worse than this.
Besides, if voters don't care about this, a DUI isn't even going to register:
