They haven't forced him to bake them a cake yet, but Duck Dynasty star Phil Roberston has been suspended by A&E because he expressed the Bible's view on homosexuality. Variety reports:

A+E Networks, parent company of  A&E, has released the following statement to Variety:

“We are extremely disappointed to have read Phil Robertson’s comments in GQ, which are based on his own personal beliefs and are not reflected in the series Duck Dynasty. His personal views in no way reflect those of A+E Networks, who have always been strong supporters and champions of the LGBT community.”

As noted in a previous Variety article, Robertson discusses in his GQ interview his religious beliefs and about sin, saying, “start with homosexual behavior and just morph out from there. Bestiality, sleeping around with this woman and that woman and that woman and those men.” Then, the GQ writer paraphrases Corinthians saying, “don’t be deceived. Neither the adulterers, the idolaters, the male prostitutes, the homosexual offenders, the greedy, the drunkards, the slanderers, the swindlers — they won’t inherit the kingdom of God. Don’t deceive yourself. It’s not right.”

Robertson added in the interview, “It seems like, to me, a vagina — as a man — would be more desirable than a man’s anus. That’s just me. I’m just thinking: There’s more there! She’s got more to offer. I mean, come on, dudes! You know what I’m saying? But hey, sin: It’s not logical, my man. It’s just not logical.”

If you ask me, it's A&E that's in a tight spot here - entirely of its own making. Duck Dynasty is a huge success and A&E isn't going to want to mess with it. Duck Dynasty fans love Phil Robertson and they're not going to accept his being demonized, especially over this.

Make no mistake, this is pure and simple fascism. Yes, A&E is a private company and it can do whatever it wants, but it is doing this because it is terrified of public pressure that comes from special interest groups with the support of the U.S. court system.

I realize that what Robertson said was pretty explicit, but the viewpoint he expressed is the biblical viewpoint, and he got suspended for expressing that viewpoint. If any liberal fool tries to tell you that Christians are not subject to discrimination in this country, just shake your head and offer to pray for them.

Now, having said that, we can take it. We're not going to sue. We're not going to organize protest marches. We're going to call upon the power of the One for Whom we testify, the One Whose Word is the power by which we must be saved. Phil Robertson understands that. The world can't handle the truth of God because it's a truth that convicts them, so the world tries to silence those who are unafraid to testify.

I don't really watch Duck Dynasty, but I've got it on right now, and my prayers are with Phil Roberston, as well as anyone else who has the courage to stand up to fascism, American-style, in the 21st Century.
